Vulnerability Research and Exploit Validation
On this page3
Security researchers and product teams use Garbo to study iOS vulnerabilities in a controlled setting: to understand how a flaw behaves, to confirm whether a reported issue can actually be exploited on a given configuration, and to check that a vendor patch or a mitigation really closes it. All of it happens on virtual devices, isolated from production systems and from real users, as part of authorized research.
How teams use Garbo
- Reproduce a published or privately reported vulnerability on the iOS versions it affects.
- Compare the same test across different iOS versions to see where a flaw appears and where it is fixed.
- Validate that a patch, a configuration change or a compensating control neutralizes the issue.
- Support coordinated disclosure with reproducible evidence that the vendor or the affected party can verify.
Typical workflow
- Prepare the environment — create a virtual device on the iOS version under study and take a snapshot of its clean state.
- Reproduce — trigger the reported condition under controlled conditions and observe the device's behavior.
- Reset and repeat — restore the snapshot so every attempt starts from exactly the same known state.
- Validate the fix — repeat the same test on a patched version or with the mitigation in place and compare the results.
Why it matters
Physical test phones are slow to reset and hard to keep on a specific iOS version. On Garbo every attempt starts clean and the device under test never touches a real user's data, so research moves faster and stays contained.
